Summary

For a full hour, he poured lemonade。 The world is a thirsty place, he thought as he nearly emptied his fourth pitcher of the day。 And I am the Lemonade King。

Fourth-grader Evan Treski is people-smart。 He’s good at talking with people, even grownups。 His younger sister, Jessie, on the other hand, is math-smart, but not especially good with people。 So when the siblings’ lemonade stand war begins, there really is no telling who will win—or even if their fight will ever end。 Brimming with savvy marketing tips for making money at any business, definitions of business terms, charts, diagrams, and even math problems, this fresh, funny, emotionally charged novel subtly explores how arguments can escalate beyond anyone’s intent。

Awards: 2009 Rhode Island Children's Book Award, 2007 New York Public Library 100 Titles for Reading and Sharing, North Carolina Children’s Book Award 2011, 2011 Nutmeg Award (Connecticut)

Read this with my Next Chapter Book Club group and it's such a cute story! I'm very tempted to continue the series。。。and I just might even if our group doesn't read the rest。 Read this with my Next Chapter Book Club group and it's such a cute story! Read this for teaching, it was an interesting story, I’m just not fully into 4th grade reads。 A cute story for a kid!

I've seen this book several times recently and had one donated to the library, so I decided to read it。 Such great fun, this is a great way to get your 3-4 graders to read and explore math word problems。 Fun tale of a brother and sister having a fight one summer and settling their disagreement。 I've seen this book several times recently and had one donated to the library, so I decided to read it。 Such great fun, this is a great way to get your 3-4 graders to read and explore math word problems。 Fun tale of a brother and sister having a fight one summer and settling their disagreement。 。。。more

A is reading this for class so I decided to read it, too。 It was not fun to me to read about the sibling rivalry, perhaps because I see my own kids (temporarily I hope) growing apart and it was painful & too real。 I did really like how you saw both viewpoints and could see how the miscommunications really did have two sides。

Great book。 I love the fact that you can read the story from both jessie's and evan's perspective。 That way no character is exactly the "bad" character。 It teaches you about business in a fun way。 Great book。 I love the fact that you can read the story from both jessie's and evan's perspective。 That way no character is exactly the "bad" character。 It teaches you about business in a fun way。 。。。more

Cute。 Probably on my list because of the incorporation of math - I hope young readers do the exercises with the characters because understanding how math works is integral to understanding the development of the incomes of the characters。 And I hope parents aren't too disturbed by how mean the siblings are to one another at the point at which competition is most intense。 It all feels very real to me。。。 and it's why good parents teach cooperation & teamwork。 I do like that mom is a good parent, t Cute。 Probably on my list because of the incorporation of math - I hope young readers do the exercises with the characters because understanding how math works is integral to understanding the development of the incomes of the characters。 And I hope parents aren't too disturbed by how mean the siblings are to one another at the point at which competition is most intense。 It all feels very real to me。。。 and it's why good parents teach cooperation & teamwork。 I do like that mom is a good parent, though perhaps a little more hands-off than some。 And I like how the kids normally get along, and have even made a vow not to fight in front of mom because they know she's stressed since Dad left。)If I were younger I would for sure keep reading in the series。 Atm, adult me is undecided。 But if you have kids in grades 2-4, esp。 if they have a sibling, I do recommend you offer this to them, or, better yet, read it with them。 。。。more

It was good enough。 Probably a good book to understand and talk about feelings, as both siblings had a lot to share about their emotions, along with their perceptions of what the other was feeling。

I really liked this book because a lot of interesting things happened trough the whole book not just certain areas that kept me intrigued。 Another reason I really liked this book is because I am really competitive so I liked that it was a competition, if you are competitive like me this would be a great choice for you。 One final reason why I really liked this book is there were multiple characters and they all had different personalities and they all made me wanna keep reading in different ways。 I really liked this book because a lot of interesting things happened trough the whole book not just certain areas that kept me intrigued。 Another reason I really liked this book is because I am really competitive so I liked that it was a competition, if you are competitive like me this would be a great choice for you。 One final reason why I really liked this book is there were multiple characters and they all had different personalities and they all made me wanna keep reading in different ways。 I feel the author of this book Jacqueline Davies did a good job helping the readers in vision the story and what was going on。 Two characters that I like from this book are Evan and Jessie Treski I like that you can feel the tension between the two of them。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I really liked this book at the beginning but it was not really my cup of lemonade。 I like fast paced fantasy books with magic in every corner。 It was a GREAT story it's just was way to slow paced for me。 I also do not like Evans character in the beginning。 This story is about Jessie and Evan, a prodigy kid and average moody tween brother。 They set up a lemonade war to see who can make 100 dollars the quickest。 As the story goes on Evans character is more likeable。 I really liked this book at the beginning but it was not really my cup of lemonade。 I like fast paced fantasy books with magic in every corner。 It was a GREAT story it's just was way to slow paced for me。 I also do not like Evans character in the beginning。 This story is about Jessie and Evan, a prodigy kid and average moody tween brother。 They set up a lemonade war to see who can make 100 dollars the quickest。 As the story goes on Evans character is more likeable。 。。。more

What a cute and fun little story! I loved the sibling relation between Evan and Jessie, even if they were at odds throughout the book。 They each had their reasons for being upset which was worked out in the end。 You could still see the love that was clearly there between the two of them and I really liked that, too often books these days portray siblings hating each other and rarely show true, genuine relationships。The bet was super fun! And centered around lemonade stands? What a great read!I w What a cute and fun little story! [Review provided by Teen Volunteer, Jacqueline] 5 stars - Jessie and Evan are siblings and Jessie is skipping 3rd grade and is going to 4th grade。 Evan who is not the smartest is mad because he doesn't what his friends thinking he is stupid。 So they start a lemonade war。 Who can make the most money in a week by selling lemonade? Someone also steals Jessies money but, who?My favorite part in the book is when Jessie desires to ruin Evan's cooler of lemonade by putting bus in it。 [Review provided by Teen Volunteer, Jacqueline] 5 stars - Jessie and Evan are siblings and Jessie is skipping 3rd grade and is going to 4th grade。 Evan who is not the smartest is mad because he doesn't what his friends thinking he is stupid。 So they start a lemonade war。 Who can make the most money in a week by selling lemonade? A cute story and the ending was great。 Predictable but still good。 My only blah, and maybe I am just misguided by my own motherhood, but I really don't see how a boy age 9-10 and a girl age 7-8 could really get along so well pre-war。 I just can't imagine that peacefulness。 Would recommend for kids in elementary school。 A cute story and the ending was great。 Predictable but still good。 My only blah, and maybe I am just misguided by my own motherhood, but I really don't see how a boy age 9-10 and a girl age 7-8 could really get along so well pre-war。 I just can't imagine that peacefulness。 Would recommend for kids in elementary school。 。。。more

Short novel that teaches math, economics, and business。 Also, might be good for discussing perceptions and assumptions。 Characters were in 3rd/4th grade。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Outstanding MG fiction。 This was very popular with my fourth grader students the yeast I retired。 I love it。 The audio book narration and production are excellent 。。。 having your child read along while listening to an audio book is a powerful strategy for reluctant readers, BTW。

Pretty average, what you see is what you get。

Re-previewed for Summer School。 Good story for discussions about characters (each chapter told from a different point of view), sibling rivalry, math/business, and creative thinking。 Each chapter starts with a new vocabulary word and its definition, which sets the tone for the chapter。 Like how it ends with a cliffhanger to encourage reading the next book。

Jenn

Audio to the beach。 Cute and entertaining。

This was a cute story。 The alternating POV let us see from the eyes of a brother and a sister who keep misunderstanding each other and assuming the worst motivations of the other。 This leads to a business-themed series of chapters detailing a bitter war between the siblings as they try to take over the lemonade market。 This book seems a bit wholesome。 Do kids still make lemonade stands? Would this be something that kids nowadays would identify with? I've never seen one。 The mom works from home b This was a cute story。 The alternating POV let us see from the eyes of a brother and a sister who keep misunderstanding each other and assuming the worst motivations of the other。 This leads to a business-themed series of chapters detailing a bitter war between the siblings as they try to take over the lemonade market。 This book seems a bit wholesome。 Do kids still make lemonade stands? Would this be something that kids nowadays would identify with? I've never seen one。 The mom works from home but she is pretty absent。 She is definitely a free-range parent。 :) The amount of foot traffic in the neighborhood seems to say big city, but the attitudes and the one policeman who knows all the kids by name seems to say small town。 This book is suitable for younger middle grade readers。 。。。more
